From the Board:

Dear Members,

Our new showers are open! As you probably know, this has been an arduous project that started out as a small water leak and ended up requiring us to rebuild the shower walls and floors in both locker rooms. As such, the board wishes to thank Kelley for her effort running a process that was fraught with difficulties. We’d also like to recognize our fellow board member Joy Cleveringa for her impeccable sense of style and dedication in sourcing the tile. And, above all, a big Thank You to our membership, who has been patiently enduring the fallout from the project.

If you haven’t seen it yet, make sure to stop by and check them out in all their splendor!

Annual Meeting

Eichler Swim and Tennis Club Annual Meeting

When: Thursday February 27th at 7:30pm

Where: Eichler Clubroom 3539 Louis Road, Palo Alto

In accordance with Eichler By-Laws, the Nominating Committee, consisting of Lynn Drake (Nominating Committee Chair), Louise Valente, and Evelyn Cox have nominated two candidates to replace outgoing Board members Marc Anker and Rebecca Passarello. We would like to thank Marc and Rebecca for their service on our Board and for demonstrating leadership and vision in the planning and implementation of our Deck Project.

We are pleased to present Chris Cummings and Linda Lee as nominees for consideration for the 2014 year. In addition, two current board members, Harvey Schloss and Jeff Weitzman, will be running for a fourth and third year, respectively.

Chris Cummings: I am a corporate strategy senior leader at NetApp, the Fortune 500 company most of you haven’t heard of.  Michelle (Cooper) and I were fortunate enough to join Eichler in 2009 and have had our three daughters, Meredith (14), Abby (12) and Scarlett (7), take part in a collective 8 seasons in the club’s wonderful swim program and 4 seasons in the tennis program.  We are excited that the club is undertaking a significant improvement to the facility and are watchful that it retain the family-oriented, down-to-earth atmosphere that provides Eichler’s unique and inviting character.  I am looking forward to the opportunity to guide progress on both of those fronts as a board member.

Linda Lee: My husband Robert Reamey and I are avid tennis players and have logged many hours on the Eichler tennis courts playing doubles, singles, mixed doubles and in clinics with Conrad.  We have three children: Nicole (27), Paul (24) and Maya (13).  We are probably more terrestrial than aquatic although Paul was inspired to play water polo in high school and college by the Horstmeyers and Maya recently enjoyed a session of Monster swimming with Sean.  I am trained as an organic chemist and (with three colleagues) am currently attempting to fund a start up to create diagnostic devices for resource-limited areas.  I am tournament director for a series of USTA twelve-and-under tournaments in Palo Alto and also volunteer at Cesar Chavez school in East Palo Alto in their after school tennis program.  I hope to contribute in some useful way to the Eichler board.

Harvey Schloss: My wife Andrea and I have been Eichler members for ten years, and I’m just completing my third year as a member of the Eichler Board of Governors.  I would like to stay on the Board through the completion of our deck project and will serve this entire year if elected.  I’m a lap swimmer (one of the slower ones….) and Andrea and I have been regular attendees at Gators swim meets to cheer on the team and our grandchildren Andrew, Kaelyn, and Lulu. I am a retired financial executive and divide my time between work in the non-profit sector, bicycling, and swimming.  In addition to advising non-profit organizations on governance, strategic organizational issues, and fund, board, and executive development, I currently serve on the following non-profit boards:  Eichler Swim and Tennis Club, The Community Working Group of Palo Alto, A Foundation Building Strength for Nemaline Myopathy, Jewish Public Affairs Committee, and the University of Rochester’s Bay Area Regional Cabinet.  I also chair Congregation Beth Am’s Development Committee as well as the Peninsula Loans and Grants Committee of Jewish Family and Children’s Services.

Jeff Weitzman: Our family has enjoyed Eichler for almost ten years, and our children Eli (17), Molly (14), and Zachary (12) have been Gator swimmers every summer. You can spot me behind the starter equipment at home meets. My wife Rachel is a regular lap swimmer, and we enjoy the social activities at Eichler year-round. I’ve enjoyed my first two years on the Board of Governors during this exciting period of renewal for our club. By day I’m a technology exec, currently a co-founder of a startup mobile software platform company.

Section 6.02 of our Bylaws provides that ten or more members may nominate other candidates for the Board of Governors in a petition signed by them and filed with the Board Secretary, Mike Fogarty, not more than six nor less than three weeks prior to the date of the Annual Meeting.
